Manuel Gras

Manuel Gras, still only 22 years old, lives in the Meidling district of Vienna.

The pictures shown here are part of the artist's first exhibition, and they show his aspects of being. Pictures like: Obedience, Dependence, Devotion or False Idols give us a hint about what the painter wants to express - he is interested in people's dreams and yearnings, but also in their weaknesses and fears.

"In our society many things which are actually quite normal are perverted. At the same time, a lot of perverse things are considered normal. With my pictures and texts I would like to try to draw attention to some of these things and perhaps to give people the opportunity to question them, because if one forgets how to look behind the masks, one forgets how to grasp reality. Imprisoned by norms and conventions, it appears that many of us are no longer capable of distinguishing that with which they were born from their conditioning! Unfortunately I cannot offer any solutions either! And so I have to be content with scratching at the foundations."
